I. Introduction

Currently, resource inefficiency and ecological environmental issues have become significant constraints on global food security and the sustainable development of agriculture. Taking the resource and environmental carrying capacity as the benchmark, the road of agricultural green development focusing on resource conservation, environmental friendliness, ecological stability and product quality and safety has become an inevitable choice for future agricultural development. Agricultural green development, as seen from a scientific and technological perspective, is a product of the digital and biotechnology era. With the development and application of new-generation information technologies like the Internet of Things, big data, blockchain, and new breeding techniques, there is a shift in agricultural production technology towards increased efficiency with reduced inputs. This has opened up a new way to continuously promote the green development of agriculture, response to climate change, ensure global food security and accelerate agricultural modernization.

Under the great support of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the first NSFC-BMGF Joint Agricultural Research and Development Symposium will be held during May 28-June 1, 2024 in Beijing.

This aims to expand the application of mature technologies in regions like Africa and Southeast Asia to ensure global food security.
