Russian National Research University Higher School of Economics Professor Robert Sandlerskiy invited to conduct academic exchange at IARRP
On May 8, at the invitation of the Innovation Team of Grassland Ecology and Remote Sensing of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Professor Robert Sandlerskiy from the Russian National Research University Higher School of Economics was invited to conduct academic exchanges at the institute and deliver an academic report titled "Joint Russian-Mongolian complex biological expedition RAS and MAS: results of the biodiversity inventory," which was chaired by Researcher Shao Changliang.
Professor Robert Sandlerskiy shared research results related to the Mongolian Plateau from 1970 to the present. He provided a detailed introduction to the vegetation distribution, climate types, hydrological conditions, altitudinal distribution, and topography of the Mongolian Plateau. Based on changes in the scale of animal husbandry and the composition of grassland livestock in Mongolia over the past twenty years, he analyzed the degradation of grassland vegetation, desertification of grasslands, and degradation of grassland resources. The team led by Professor Robert Sandlerskiy has accumulated rich experience and technical expertise in developing plans to restore forest and grassland resources, measures to prevent desertification, and environmental protection measures, all of which are of significant reference value for environmental protection and conservation. Following the presentation, Professor Robert Sandlerskiy engaged in lively discussions and exchanges with the researchers present on relevant scientific issues, and pleasant discussions were held on future collaborative research work on the Mongolian Plateau.
Professor Robert Sandlerskiy is the Director of the "International Landscape Ecology Laboratory" at the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology of the Moscow State University of Research Higher School of Economics in Russia. He is a landscape geographer, ecologist, member of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE) and the Russian Geographical Society, and the principal leader of the Mongolian Plateau Scientific Expedition Team. He has published over forty scientific papers on landscape assessment, status assessment, and habitat mapping using remote sensing and mathematical processing methods, with over 15 years of research experience, including studies and technical development and implementation of landscape cover mapping, ecological trail system planning, and integrated agricultural and forestry land ecological assessment.
